Government pension fund outreach in Gamalakhe targets beneficiaries

The awareness campaign aims to reduce unclaimed benefits cases.

The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) will host an outreach campaign to educate its beneficiaries about its services at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe on June 20, from 08:00 to 16:00.

The biggest challenge that the fund is currently dealing with is the rising number of unclaimed benefits cases.

The purpose of the event is to share information about the fund’s benefits, services, and processes, specifically targeting active members and beneficiaries.

Through this awareness campaign, the fund aims to considerably reduce unclaimed cases, while also curbing the prevalence and recurrence of the problem.

Such campaigns are also aimed at safeguarding the financial interests of members, who often get swindled by unscrupulous financial advisors who prey on unsuspecting members.

Self-proclaimed ‘brokers’ falsely claim to be representatives of the GEPF and offer to speed up claim processes while demanding a service fee, whereas the fund’s services are, by law, free.

It cautions members and potential claimants against brokers, and aims to educate about the fund’s services, guidelines, and processes to claim efficiently.
