On the evening of August 19, Peter Sharp received a call from family friend Linda Hansell, who was phoning from the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital.
Linda and her husband Brian had been visiting there between 18:00 and 19:00.
She was concerned that their car, which they had only had for a week, would not make the journey back home, and asked if Peter would drive through and escort them home.
This he did. However, at the traffic lights near the Margate police station, the car broke down.
Seemingly out of nowhere, four young men stopped to assist and, with a rope, managed to tow the car to the filling station forecourt up the hill at Hibiscus Mall.
Unfortunately, the rope kept breaking on that short journey, and Linda decided to leave the car there and sort the problem the next day.
The young men would not hear of this as they thought Linda and Brian had enough stress.
No questions asked, they literally pushed the car from the Hibiscus Mall all the way to the Hibiscus Retirement Village.
With it now being past 19:30, they were concerned for the safety of Linda and Brian and their vehicle.
The young men, namely Justin Davis, Jared Groenewald, Duan Cloete and Zain Rehman, were assisted by ADT security guard Sambonga Mvundla.
Peter was amazed at how they all assisted, with no hesitation, and at the end it was as if they had just returned from a casual walk to the shops.
“No praise is enough for them,” he said.
