JUST IN: Teen, 16, critically injured in Scottburgh bridge fall

The teen was reportedly pulled from the water by an unknown person who fled before emergency services arrived.

A 16-year-old girl sustained critical injuries after falling from a bridge into a river in the Scottburgh area earlier today (Sunday, October 18).

IPSS Medical Rescue paramedics responded to the scene at one of the bridges along the R102, where the teenager had reportedly been pulled from the river by an unknown person who subsequently fled.

Scottburgh lifeguards carried the girl from the riverside before an IPSS Medical Rescue Advanced Life Support paramedic stabilised her.

She was then transported to hospital for further medical care.

The circumstances surrounding how she fell from the bridge will form part of an investigation by police.

IPSS Medical Rescue thanked EMRS, Scottburgh RTI and police, Gladiator Security Services, Scottburgh Lifeguards and IPSS S&R volunteers that assisted on scene.
