PS Senior Primary’s Fathima is a maths whizz

She achieved full marks when tested at school.

The Department of Education recently conducted its annual Mental Maths Quiz in which learners from the Ugu District participated.

Port Shepstone Senior Primary’s Fathima Khamissa (13) was one of the top achievers.

Fathima was initially tested at school, together with her peers, where she achieved full marks.

Thereafter, she advanced to the first round – Ogwini Circuit Mental Maths Quiz – which took place on May 18 at Louisiana Primary School where she placed second in Grade 7.

Her performance promoted her to the second round – Ugu District Level Mental Maths Quiz – which took place on August 30 at Port Shepstone Senior Primary School.

After thorough preparation using Maths 24 cards and despite her nervousness, Fathima performed exceptionally well and was placed first in Grade 7 in the district.

“I enjoyed the experience, especially meeting other participants and sharing our challenges with each other. My advice to other learners is to never give up, always try to accomplish your goals no matter how difficult they may seem,” said Fathima.

Her family and friends are extremely happy for her and along with the school wish her well for the provincial round.
