In the last few months I have been walking the minor roads near my home in an effort to get a little fitter.
An alarming new trend has become apparent to me, which I would like to share with other pedestrians and cyclists. I walk on the right hand edge of the road and have noticed that taxis coming from behind often have wheels well over the white lines as they come alongside me, and once they have passed move back to the left and sometimes hoot.
Conversely if they are coming towards me, they stay very close to my edge of the road. I do use the verge, but this is not always possible. This is obviously some mindless game to intimidate and I am now very focused on this type of behaviour. If these incidents were isolated I would not highlight them, but in my experience they are fairly general and the public should be aware. Also, the police should note that in cases involving taxis and pedestrians, or taxis and cyclists, they may not be as a result of inattention, but of irresponsible driving taken a step too far and this possibility should be factored into their investigations.
