Restaurant of the Week: Fish on the River

For almost a decade, Fish on the River has been serving fresh, delicious seafood that keeps patrons coming back for more.

LOCATED on the banks of the breathtaking Mzimkhulu River, Fish on the River is a favourite among locals and visitors alike. Established in 2004, the restaurant, with its informal picnic-like setting and nautical theme, makes the dining experience even more enjoyable. Many patrons take advantage of the beautiful deck for a lazy, leisurely lunch on sunny days.

The menu is a seafood lover’s dream come true and features a variety which includes hake, snoek, prawns, calamari, sole and the catch of the day (all seafood is subject to weather, season and fishing luck). One of the specialities is the mouth-watering seafood pot, which consists of a medley of seafood smothered in creamy lemon parsley sauce with your choice of chips or rice. If you prefer something spicy, try the selection of mariner’s marsala dishes – calamari or fish or queen prawns in a blend of eastern spices. If you’re in the mood to nibble, Neptune’s platter or the munchies basket is the way to go. Good old hake and chips is always a popular choice and is made in Fish on the River’s secret batter. If you don’t feel like seafood, there is an option of succulent chicken breasts, marinated to perfection and served ‘hot or not’, with a side.

The portions are generous but if you still have room for dessert, a selection of Brenell desserts satisfies your sweet tooth. There is a well stocked bar with a selection of beers, wines and spirits. For more information, call 071 5380962.
