DEAR Editor,-
I hereby express my disappointment with the sms in the ‘Talk Back’ column (January 17) under the heading ‘Little place in the sun’. I am not part of the Sunwich Port Residents’ Committee and admit that I am not as active as I could have been. However, during the last 13 months since we moved to the village, I have only noticed positive changes, initiated by this committee, of which I could provide you with many examples, if you wish.
My objection to this ridiculous sms and the questions which I would like the writer to answer include the following:
1 Why did you run to the press anonymously without trying to resolve your problems ‘internally’. Why hide your identity?
2 Except for the flower saga (which had been discussed so many times that it started getting boring), you did not mention any specific reasons, issues or incidents relating to your ‘pie-in-the-sky’ complaint.
3 If meetings are to be held every six weeks, would you be committed to attend every one of them? Do you even know who the committee members are? I doubt it, or perhaps you have a personal grievance against one or more of the members. The ex-chairman has a business to run, but he is also still willing to pass residents’ concerns on to the current committee members, and
4 The committee has no authority to ‘force’ Ugu, Eskom or HMC into any direction. They can only try to put pressure on them to perform the duties that they should do anyhow. I smell a rat – Are you from Ugu?
Well done Sunwich Port Residents’ Committee – You are doing a great job, using your own time and resources. It is much appreciated.
GERHARD WOEST
Sunwich Port
