DEAR Editor,-
Let this be a warning to would-be fraudulent bookkeepers.
In late 2004, a bookkeeper we had had for three months stole a considerable amount of money from us. We reported the matter to the police, but the bookkeeper had moved and we heard very little after that and so wrote the debt off.
In February this year, nine years later, the Margate police phoned us to tell us that the said woman had actually left the country, but had been arrested upon her return to Cape Town. A few months later she paid the money owed to us.
Thank you Warrant Officer Petro de Witt for your perseverance in this comparatively ‘minor’ case.
