‘Inpatient closure is shocking’

Patients who use this ward generally have nobody to care for them.

DEAR Editor,-

It was with shock and dismay that I found out that the inpatient ward at South Coast Hospice had been closed due to financial constraints.

When one reads of the Nkandla debacle and the three-day running of the Nelson Mandela opera, costing Lotto R1.3 million, it is hard to get one’s head around what is happening in this beloved country.

When people who are in dire straits, due to illness, are neglected because monies are wasted on unnecessary projects, it is extremely frustrating. The patients who use this ward are in a terrible situation and generally have nobody to care for them.
