‘Licensing department is hopelessly understaffed’

As the morning progressed, I became more and more sympathetic towards the workers.

DEAR Editor,-

After all the recent negative media reports, it was with a degree of trepidation that I arrived at the licensing office in Port Shepstone at 7.15am last week.

I was number 19 in the queue when the doors were opened (albeit a little later than advertised), but as the morning progressed, I became more and more sympathetic towards the workers who were trying their utmost to deal with the public in near impossible circumstances. They are hopelessly understaffed in clearly inadequately sized premises to deal with the volume on a day-to-day basis.

Special thanks to Candy Botts who spent the morning dashing about helping wherever she could, guiding the uninitiated and unravelling the red tape.

Come on HCM, give these folk the additional staff they so desperately need and the space within which to operate efficiently. My grateful thanks to the staff.
