DEAR Editor,-
We all know times are tough, but when Ugu blatantly disregards calls about leaking water, it gets very worrying, especially when you are on the phone waiting for someone to answer your call! And to top it all, the recording says ‘take responsibility and report water leaks’ – what a joke!
It all started halfway through November when we noticed water coming out from under the road (refer to photograph). We logged the fault in the afternoon, as well as a water-logged meter, and arrived home the next afternoon – still to a leak! I phoned and asked when they would respond, only to be told they only respond to emergencies! Gasp! Horror! … Is a leaking water pipe not an emergency?
We phoned again at the end of November and spoke to a manager, who finally sent someone out! Only to discover they dug a bit of a hole, stuck a few sticks in it and then left? We phoned again on December 1.
It is now the morning of December 4 and I have had enough. During the last call I made on December 2, I sadly used the Herald’s name in vain, hoping that would spring them into action, to no avail.
So despairingly, I have had to resort to writing this letter in the hope of highlighting Ugu’s irresponsibility with regards to protecting one of our most precious commodities. After 16 days of continuous water wasting down the drain, I am left wondering if the same is happening to Ugu’s values.
