‘Councillor is conspicuous by her absence’

The DA sure knows how to pick committed councillors.

DEAR Editor,-

Before the last ward by-elections to replace councillor Mike Henderson for ward 12 (Umtentweni, Oshabeni and Albersville), I remember meeting with Zuret Opperman, Doug Rawlins and Tap Kruger where they were campaigning for votes in front of Abingdon Spar.

During our chat, I asked Zuret where she lives and was informed that she is not staying in Umtentweni, but will move here soon. The gentlemen present confirmed this. In fact, shortly after Zuret won the election I contacted Tap and told him of a very nice house that is available for long term rental in Sylvan Avenue for next to nothing and nothing came of it.

It is with shock that I read in another publication that after winning the election, Zuret is totally absent from her ward (it is noticeable with the decline going on), and despite telling me that she was going to move soon after the election to live in Tweni, this has not happened. Zuret, Tap and Doug lied to us.

We read in the papers and other forums how the ruling party lies to us continuously and you are no different. I bet you enjoy your nice salary like Avril Griffiths, ex-councillor of Uvongo, before she deserted the country to live in the UK. The DA sure knows how to pick committed councillors, don’t they?

A word to Alex Skene: Alex, I see the work you are doing with the Umtentweni Conservancy and your commitment to the area and I apologise for not voting for you. Please stand again in the next election; you have my vote and that of my family. And everyone else that I can convince.

DA-DISILLUSIONED

Umtentweni
