DEAR Editor,
My son has lived in South Africa for the last 23 years, for the last seven, in Margate. He and his wife have two daughters aged six and eight who are “the apples of our eyes”.
Our problem is sending gifts to them.
For Christmas, against our better judgement, we decided to send them Frozen dresses (inspired by Walt Disney’s 3D computer-animated musical fantasy film).
We sent them first class, tracked and to be signed for on November 18. It is now December 22 and as of this moment, the parcel has not arrived.
This isn’t the first time that gifts we have sent have ‘failed’ to arrive and we have been told by other people who have had similar problems this is not unusual as gifts usually go missing at this time of year.
The cost to us was in excess of R1 000 but the cost to the children in not receiving these gifts will be far greater.
I am hoping that by printing this letter, it may help bring a Christmas to a couple of beautiful children.
