‘Councillor believes DA is owed an apology’

These uninformed, sarcastic accusations are false.

DA-DISILLUSIONED’s defiant, cowardly attack in the December 19 issue of the Herald cannot be left unanswered.

The writer’s severe criticism of certain DA councillors in particular, and the DA in general, only reveals a lack of insight, ignorance and prejudice.

As a matter of fact, I have duly informed Councillor Zuret Opperman about the vacant, cheap apartment at his in-laws’ property in Tweni.

Our DA caucus leader and myself only acted in good faith to inform residents that Zuret might relocate after the elections. We are not accountable for the fact that she (for personal reasons) is still servicing Ward 12, 16 kms from her residence in Uvongo.

The writer’s sarcastic accusations and insinuations of ‘lies, nice salaries of chosen committed councillors’ is  false and the DA is owed an apology.

It is indeed the attitude and dedication of hard working DA councillors that has brought and is still forcing the ANC municipality to accountablity. The negative situation with service delivery in general, would have been far worse if the DA, even as a minority party in council, was not present.
