DEAR Editor,-
I recently had reason to visit a business in Lind Road, Marburg, and the directions stated that the business was opposite the Ugu building. I did not know that there was an Ugu building in that area.
I found Lind Road and identified the Ugu building which is a double-story structure and is quite impressive, not to mention expensive, but situated in a rather dull industrial setting.
What attracted my attention was the vegetation growing on the roof, in the gutters and a load of leaf mould between the roof gables. All the gutters are choked with plants growing in them and some are a metre high!
Who is responsible for the maintenance, I wonder? Gutters on multi-storey buildings are always a problem because it is almost impossible to clear them and you have to wonder why they bother with gutters? Maybe if someone photographs it, the responsible people might do something about it.
