DEAR Editor,-
With reference to a letter entitled ‘Incompetence beggars belief’ (SCH March 13) and smses under the talkback heading ‘Adept at being inept’ (SCH March 20), this casts the Margate police members and station in an extremely negative light.
We all know that government departments like the South African Police Services are regarded as ‘working for the benefit of the country and its citizens’ and, as such, must be called a service. We, the South African Police Service, are happy to be of service to the community and there are many who are very passionate about their jobs. It is our duty to render service delivery to communities, so being negative about the police is not conducive to resolving the problem.
If a member of the SAPS has done something wrong or caused anyone any frustration or inconvenience with pathetic performance, we urge the complainant to report it to Colonel David Govender at 082 4177784 (Margate Station Commander) or Brigadier Morris Moodley at 082 8268985 (Margate Cluster Commander).
This will ensure that community members are assisted until the matter is resolved. Matters of unsatisfactory services rendered by the SAPS are henceforth to be dealt with at management level and internal investigations will be conducted if deemed necessary.
If the matter turns out to be one of a criminal nature, it must be reported to the relevant commanders above, and the offending member of the police force will be investigated and prosecuted.
CAPT GERALD MFEKA
SAPS Margate
