DEAR Editor,-
On the Thursday of the hail storm, we had just left the Port Shepstone Country Club cricket field and I had parked my car in our garage in Lyndell Road in Tweni when the storm really hit – hail and rain, in Tweni of all places!
My husband had been a couple of minutes behind me, but there was no sign of him. The lights then went out and my husband came running down the drive because a tree had fallen across the road preventing vehicles from entering or leaving, but the biggest damage was to the electrical box which was smashed to bits under the tree.
We managed to cut some branches to get cars in and out, but called Eskom to report the damage and the danger and they advised that someone would come through in a few hours. We are fortunate enough to have a gas stove, so supper was cooked and we had an early night listening to the raging storm.
We had little faith in Eskom fixing anything in that weather, but amazingly and to their credit, the guys who came out weathered that storm until they had ensured that the area was safe!
The next morning there stood a stunning new box! It was a fantastic job that needs to be praised. A big thank you – it was dangerous working in the wet, but these guys left us with the good feeling that yes, people still do care about the work they do.
Well done to the workers! We never met you, but here’s a ‘high five’ from all residents on the affected road.
