WHILE preparing a message on how God desires for the culture of heaven to invade the earth so that His will is done on earth as it is in heaven, the stage was set for a hostile takeover – in my kitchen that is.
I woke up to a pretty normal day on a Friday recently, only to open our kitchen cupboards and find ourselves victims of a massive ant invasion.
They descended on us without warning and without mercy. It seemed as though all the ant colonies in the area had been summoned to pitch up for the big day. And these were the tiny black ants.
They came in countless numbers, something that we had not seen before and they had seized every corner of our kitchen. They were everywhere – in our food supplies, dishes and cutlery, on the floor and on the ceiling. This was a declaration of war.
When we realised that we were under siege, we went to work quickly hoping to swiftly annihilate our intruders. This invasion set my super hero husband on a war path – armed with his spray bottle containing a deadly potion of ant poison, and a fierce intent to show no mercy – take no prisoners, he bravely charged into battle and took on these invaders.
Well, I thought that all was said and done on that day. I went to bed but got up the next morning to find my entire kitchen turned inside out. I was not amused to say the least and when I asked him,’ what were you thinking when you did this’, he said, ‘These ants are going to know that they messed with the wrong family’.
But I really shouldn’t complain – what with me being married to a super hero and all – is considered a privilege around these parts.
We live in a world where time rules all things and God ordained it that way when He created everything. From the rising of the sun to the birthing of the animals in the field, time is essential and precious to all of us and without it life on earth will be chaotic.
God appointed times and seasons to establish an order in the earth that is synergistic and not chaotic. This means that while we live in a fallen earth, there is still a degree of harmony that God has graciously allowed life on this planet to enjoy.
The animal and insect-life have an amazing ability to discern time, that even scripture instructs us and counsels us to glean from their wisdom. This, of course, is the wisdom God set in them, to know when to gather their food, to hibernate, to migrate, to mate and do a host of other things, so that they too can thrive and replicate and be preserved.
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven says the preacher. Ecc.3:1
