‘The time has come to hang up my boots’

My wife Ann and I would like to thank all the people we have had the pleasure of meeting over the past 24 years.

DEAR Editor,-

I would like to thank all the people on the South Coast whom my wife Ann and I have had the pleasure of meeting over the past 24 years while I managed the Ugu Umtamvuna waterworks.

We have had the pleasure of meeting people in the farming, academic, sporting, professional and international sectors of life. Unfortunately the time has come to hang up my boots and hopefully enjoy a well-deserved pension.

I would also like to thank the Herald for their steadfast and positive approach in keeping the public informed. My personal thanks to Jim Davey, Richard Derman, John Kinghorn and the other members of Southbroom’s water committee. Also Dave Kinsey (Munster), Geoff Reardon, Dave Watson and André du Toit (Port Edward), as well as Viv Zanner (Banners Rest). Their help has been unselfish and they deserve great praise from their communities. Many, many thanks from Ann and me.

CHARLES THORP
