Inspiration: But You, O Lord are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. Psalm 3:3

“You were picked out to be picked on” -Kelley Varner, from his book Prevail-  A Handbook for the Overcomer

IT is said, the easiest fruit to pick are the ones that hang low on the tree.

For those of us who allow ourselves to be  tormented by feelings of inadequacies such as poor self esteem, lack of confidence and so forth, find ourselves  victims of intimidation, lies or bullying at some point in our lives, whether by a family member, friend or a colleague.

It is an ugly, evil spirit that seeks to render us powerless by destroying us from the inside out – a spirit that seems to thrive on those who cannot or will not fight back or retaliate.

When I went through this many years ago, I thought that there was no way out.  I was depressed, and discouraged for a long time.  I prayed to God to make it stop but I had no breakthrough.  But I thank God that even though I had been praying from an inaccurate position; that is for God to stop the one causing the offense, He did not leave me in my affliction.

But by His Spirit He directed me to His Word and led me out of this captivity.  He showed me Psalm 27, ‘The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid?  I have set you high upon a rock out of the reach of your enemies.  They cannot touch you’.

When I saw this in the spirit and received it, I was delivered from this affliction and the power that this spirit wielded over me was nullified.  Now the offense itself did not stop even till today, but when it comes it does not leave me weak and powerless anymore because God has shown me that His Word is a shield around me.

God sees you. He sees your affliction and He is concerned about you.  Your complete well being is important to Him.  He calls you the apple of His eye.  He is touched by the feelings of our infirmities.

Remember that Jesus, Himself had to endure severe affliction and persecution. King David sought God constantly to help him with his enemies who he said at times were too strong for him and there are many others like him in scripture.

David says in Psalm 66, For You, O God, have tested us; You refined us as silver is refined.  You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs.  You caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; but You brought us out to rich fulfillment.

So don’t despair and be discouraged.  You were picked out to be picked on because God desires for you to enjoy overflowing abundance.  Be blessed.
