DEAR Editor,-
I live in Southport, which falls in the load-shed area of Umtentweni to Hibberdene. We have been cut seven times since Monday (11th) until Sunday (17th), with two cuts on that Sunday and apparently we will be off again later if they move to stage 2! The worst is that it is always during lunch or dinner time and I think this is an utter disgrace because other areas on the coast are treated much better.
How do they justify this in a mainly residential and rural area? When I lived in a mixed residential and industrial area in Gauteng, we were cut way less than here on the South Coast. The biggest frustration is to try and contact or explain this to the ‘mighty lords at Eskom’ – it is impossible.
They ignore all emails and at other times they let you type out the whole email and when you try and send it, the reply is ‘We are having technical difficulties. Please try again.’ What a joke!
Phoning the call centre is a huge waste of time, especially when you are told to check the schedules on the website. And then guess what? The website is offline!
Eskom tries to project an image of professionalism, but they are failing dismally. Is there a way to get through to Eskom to explain the problem?
Or shall I sell and move on? I do not see an alternative.
