‘No wonder there is carnage on the roads’

There was a newspaper open on the steering wheel and the driver was reading it!

DEAR Editor,-

Last Friday morning I was driving from Durban and came up behind a 16-wheeler fully-loaded truck and noticed it was weaving slightly and drifting into the right hand lane, and then across the yellow line onto the left. As I overtook, I glanced up at the driver and to my absolute amazement saw there was a newspaper open on the steering wheel and incredibly, he was reading it!

It was not the size of the Herald, but a larger newspaper. The name on the side of the truck was so small that I unfortunately could not read it, and of course, there were no phone numbers.

I’m just saying – it’s no wonder we have carnage on the roads.
