OPINION: ‘Traffic filter is urgently required’

Can traffic authorities tell us why this filter has never been activated?

DEAR Editor,-

If ever there is an intersection that desperately requires an arrow (filter) to turn right off the main road, it is Izotsha Road (turnoff just before Shelly Centre and the road to the Southcoast Mall).

There is a constant stream of traffic from Margate to Port Shepstone and the only way to get across is to go through the robot when it is already red. Then only one, or maybe two, cars get across at each cycle change.

The little arrow box has patiently been waiting below the robot for over a year and has never worked. Why is this ? It is desperately needed. Can traffic authorities tell us why this filter has never been activated? Or are they waiting for someone to have an accident before any action is taken?

JUST WONDERING
