OPINION: ‘Workers made the potholes worse’

Two days later the gravel was gone and now residents are the owners of prizewinning potholes.

DEAR Editor,-

I have never in my life witnessed such a bunch of clueless people as those who were ‘repairing’ potholes in Palm Road, Southport recently. A team of about eight ‘specialists’ was dropped off and they started opening up our ‘not so big’ potholes with picks and spades. After making them bigger and deeper, they finally filled them up with gravel, packed up their tools and left the site.

Needless to say, two days later the gravel was gone and now we (residents) are the owners of prize winning potholes – bigger and deeper than before! All we need now is the much-needed rain, and then we are really going to have fun and games.

What has happened to this beautiful country of ours? Whoever is in charge of maintenance on the South Coast is slowly but surely taking this beautiful part of our coastline down the tubes at an alarming rate. What is disturbing is that we, as ratepayers, are paying them to do just that. What a shame.
