OPINION: ‘Why there are no cars available’

How long would these vehicles and officers be out of action?

DEAR Editor,-

At 10am last Friday morning while I was filling up with fuel in the Marburg area, I noticed the following at the car wash. There was one police van in the wash bay, two other vans and a SAP minibus waiting in the queue, as well as taxis waiting their turn in between. The officers were having their tea or lunch at the time and I don’t have a problem with this, except, how long would it take to wash these vehicles? How long would said vehicles and officers be out of action?

Surely it would be of benefit for these officers to be at the police stations and rather have waiting prisoners wash the vehicles at no cost to taxpayers? We are often told that there are no vehicles to send out to crime scenes and now we know why! Are councillors, among others, aware of this?
