With regards to the article in last week’s Herald, the mayor’s response is ridiculous to say the least. We have been experiencing low rainfalls and drought conditions for almost the whole year.
The entire country is suffering and if Ugu had been proactive in looking at innovative measures months back, we, the community, wouldn’t have had to suffer the consequences. The mayor should be apologising and offer relief assistance. After all, we are having our meters read and are expecting hefty water bills, so show us that you really care and give us relief on our water bills. It is unfair to pay for ‘salt water’ considering the expense residents incurred to purchase bottled water. Appliances have failed due to the salt content, so no – this is not on. Let us stop passing the buck and own up to incompetency.
