OPINION: ‘Seeking South Coast ‘superheroes’’

I invite the public to let me know of any stories of individuals or organisations reaching out to others.

DEAR Editor,-

I have been requested by my church to collect and bring to light ‘Stories of Hope’ in the HCM area, with the focus on poverty and unemployment. I invite the public to let me know of any small or big stories of individuals or organisations reaching out to others through care or support of people in need.

Since starting this project, I realised that I should broaden the scope and turn it into a celebration of the work of the many South Coast ‘superheroes’ who unselfishly reach out, sometimes at great personal sacrifice, to support and care for others.

Not only will these ‘Stories of Hope’ be highlighted and shared, but perhaps wherever possible, assistance and resources could be coordinated. The hope is to inspire people to get involved and reach out within their own community, to care, pray for, assist and change people’s circumstances for the better.

I have heard of many wonderful stories and projects of this nature, however there are probably many untold stories of hope. I invite everyone to let me know of current projects or stories of hope. This project will provide a platform for some amazing stories to be told and celebrated through short talks and presentations early next year.

Please contact Stories of Hope, c/o Piet Beukes, PO Box 1903, Margate 4275, or email pietbeukes@gmail.com.
