OPINION: ‘Au revoir, Blue Flag beach’

The tidal pool, which has always been immensely popular at the beach, is now just about a non-entity.

DEAR Editor,-

It is dismaying to see the condition of Southport’s so-called Blue Flag beach – The tidal pool, which has always been immensely popular at the beach, is now just about a non-entity and 90 percent is filled with sand. The grass at the beach parking area is at knee-high level around rubbish bins and one of the benches. Generally, the whole area is in a sad state of neglect.

When we moved to the area three years ago, the pool was repaired and the sand was removed every year around November, before the holidays. This year nothing has been done and I suppose it follows the same route as many other beaches in the area. Our local DA councillor, whoever that might be, probably never goes to the beach or does not care.

So – the mayor needs us? What a joke. When we need her she goes on a trip! I cannot wait for next year’s election – it is going to be an eye-opener. All I can add is ‘au revoir Blue Flag’. But then, who cares?
