OPINION: ‘All complaints have to be attended to’

If your neighbour kills your chickens in his backyard, you call the very same police.

DEAR Editor,-

In response to the letter from Norman Landman in last week’s Herald entitled ‘Stop wasting SAPS time with chicken feed reports’. The police is a public service and all complaints, no matter how petty, have to be attended to otherwise the complainant can report the matter to the Independent Police Investigation Department (IPID). Or, as is done regularly on the South Coast, approach the media.

There are things called ‘by-laws’ and it clearly states that it is the owner’s responsibility to keep animals inside. Let me tell you that if your neighbour should kill your chickens or shoot them in his backyard, you will be calling the very same police to investigate your chicken complaint. Any complaint by any member of public must be attended to.
