OPINION: ‘Relocating did not solve the problem’

I cannot understand why one must plead and threaten to get service out of a service provider like Ugu.

DEAR Editor,-

My family and I relocated from Mpumalanga to Ramsgate on Saturday, January 9. Our reason for relocating was poor service delivery and pollution. Upon our arrival, we found the water connection switched off.

I was told by Ugu Municipality to pay the connection fee, which I did on the Monday morning, pleading for them to reopen the valve and the promise was made. On the Wednesday afternoon, after numerous phone calls, pleading and begging, I had to make another plan and eventually had water that night.

I cannot understand why one must plead and threaten to get service out of a service provider like Ugu. There seems to be no control or supervision within the operation of this municipality.

I was hoping that we had made a good decision by moving from one pathetic municipality to another, but it seems like they are all the same in our beautiful country.
