DEAR Editor,-
Yesterday morning, five local municipal workers responsible for maintaining grass verges arrived for work at 8.55am. They then sat on the grass verge on the corner of Svea and Beaumont Avenues in Uvongo for three quarters of an hour talking. At 9.45am, one member then proceeded to cut the verge whilst the others carried on sitting around. About ten minutes later, a second worker started cleaning his tools to start working and eventually the rest of the workers starting working at about 10.10am.
The previous afternoon, workers were picked up at 3pm, which is presumably the end of their day. Taking into consideration that they are entitled to a lunch break, it seems municipal workers only have a four-and-a-half hour working day. We are very concerned about this. We are pensioner ratepayers and feel that we are entitled to better service.
