OPINION: ‘Call for water falls on deaf ears’

There were no other bottles to be seen and the security guard was unaware of the project!

DEAR Editor,-

We responded to the request to donate water (‘Bottles needed for the thirsty’, SCH January 22) and dropped off six 5-litre bottles of drinking water at 10am last Saturday. There were no other bottles to be seen and the security guard at the centre was unaware of the project! By 10.45am we were still the only ones to have brought bottles.

To say that we were disappointed with the response to the plea for help would be an understatement. Melanie Beach and others have gone to a lot of trouble to put this volunteer drive together. They, and the people they are attempting to assist, deserve better support.

Most people in our situation have plenty of water to spare, plus, at some time recently, have bought bottles of drinking water and have empty bottles. This is sad.
