DEAR Editor,-
Once again St Valentine’s Day has rolled around and I thought perhaps you could use a satirical poem I composed many years ago.
Valentine
After all, you choose and send a card,
You considered, running a colourful ad,
Even contemplated a complex charade?
To complete this modern day fad.
All to deliver a heart inspired feeling,
Requiring a mixture of sight and smell,
For a heart to go through the ceiling,
If delivered by a ‘Scarlet Pimpernel’.
In the end, do we resort to familiar faces?
To receive a note of things to happen,
Suggesting secret secluded places,
As a prelude, to hot intense passion.
Would it be so much more fun?
To seduce a complete stranger,
Love seems so more heart strung,
If sprinkled with illicit danger.
Oh, the day is full, all of a shiver,
Chocolate, card even a rose,
For a postal service to deliver,
To that person someone else chose.
MIKE LEE
