OPINION: ‘Our police are heroes’

This whole incident restored my confidence in our local police.

DEAR Editor,-

I would like to compliment the Port Shepstone SAPS for the service received after we had a break-in last Saturday at 3.15am. We were very shaken, but when we phoned the charge office we were immediately connected to the control centre who informed us that they would dispatch officers as soon as possible. To our surprise, within 10 minutes, W/O Johan Zandberg and Const Bonny Ngcobo were at our premises.

They were most sympathetic towards us and most efficient, taking statements from my wife and me, which were well-worded and neatly written. W/O Zandberg gave us a list of other phone numbers should we have any further problems and informed us that an sms would be sent with the case number. This was received at 1.07pm on the same day.

I would like to thank Captain Kodi for phoning the following day to enquire about our well-being after our ordeal. We also received a follow-up call from the Port Shepstone SAPS on Tuesday this week. There have been so many bad reports about the SAPS, but this has restored my confidence in our local police. Thank you!

A VERY SATISFIED RESIDENT
