DEAR Editor,-
I was amazed to see the tirade on a social media platform against DA councillors when the water was turned off in Margate, Manaba and parts of Uvongo last weekend, caused by the pump at the sewage works in Margate breaking down. Do these people not realise that ANC councillors are in the majority within both Hibiscus Coast Municipality and Ugu District Municipality?
DA councillors (who are in the minority) have no control over the budget and maintenance schedules and are outvoted on almost every issue. They have also no say in the appointment of senior officials. I can understand the frustrations of being without water, but am sure that councillors are equally frustrated. To vent on social media platforms is not going to solve the problem.
The only way to bring about an efficiently run municipality is to channel one’s energies into canvassing for the DA at every opportunity – to people from all walks of life. Only then will we see a great improvement in the way things are run.
VERA BUYS
Uvongo
