OPINION: ‘Intersection gets the green light’

It has been recommended that council proceed with design and installation of these traffic lights.

DEAR Editor,-

I refer to the matter regarding the installation of traffic lights at the Marine Drive and Knox-Gore intersection. Readers may recall that the traffic engineer appointed to carry out the traffic count concluded that traffic lights were not warranted at this intersection.

I am now pleased to report however, that the Department of Transport has indicated that signalisation is ‘marginally’ warranted and that, should the municipality wish to proceed with signalisation, then traffic signals designs prepared by a registered traffic engineer must be submitted for approval.

The Department of Human Settlements and Infrastructure has accordingly recommended that council proceed with the designs and installation of these traffic lights.

PETER NAUDE

Councillor Ward 19
