OPINION: ‘Could Ugu please clarify the bylaw?’

Some body corporates are proceeding with installation prior to establishing the legality of the bylaw.

DEAR Editor,-

The Ugu by-law concerning the installation of a tank cistern to store one day’s water supply in the event of a breakdown is becoming even more questionable.

The Herald published two letters on the subject in last week’s edition, namely one from Mike Lee and the other from Phil Rowley. Both letters indicate quite clearly that the matter has been thoroughly investigated and that the legality and practicality of the by-law is disputable.

I have endeavoured to contact Ugu for comment to no avail. It would be greatly appreciated if Ugu could clarify the legality of the by-law on behalf of the ‘confused’ public. Of concern is that some body corporates, in fear of the threat of a heavy fine, are proceeding with the installation prior to establishing the legality of the by-law.
