HAVING spent a little time with rape victims, I can only conclude – most #menaretrash!
Have you ever wondered what goes on in the mind of a rapist?
I don’t know and certainly don’t want to know. The thought just makes my already receding hairline shrink even further!

Do they plan it? Does it make it right?
So, do men just wake up and decide, ‘today is the day, I’m going to rape them and there is nothing they can do about it?’
For as long as teachers rape learners and boyfriends kill their lovers, I will maintain #menaretrash

Rape victim Anna Monyane* tells all. * (not her real name)
Her own father repeatedly raped her.
“I used to tell my mom about it, all she said was ‘shhhhhhh it’s going to be okay’, ” recalls Anna.

Anna became a ‘sacrifice’ for their comfortable life as her ‘Papa’ was the only breadwinner at home.
Still, does it make it right?
According to Anna, her father repeatedly maintained he did nothing wrong, till the day he took his last breath.
“I’m not a rapist, I just take what I want,” her father told her.
Unfortunately for Anna justice did not prevail, her mother being too scared and coming from a little rural village, she never had the courage to report the matter to authorities.

“He said behind his zipper was weapon to discipline me, because my mother was useless, something I never understood,” adds Anna.
Upon finding out, their Induna (tribal councillor) ‘sentenced’ her father to hand over a goat and bottle of brandy to cleanse the family of the ‘Ihlazo’ (disgrace), he had brought to the area.
A goat? That’s all? I know you’re probably just as shocked as I am. Believe me, these things are swept under the carpet in most rural villages.
“It will go away,” they say. Or Uzobaryt wethu! (will it ever stop?)
It boggles my mind to think how many more young women are silently suffering out there.
How many children are being told to “Shushhhhhhhh! It’s upsetting?”
