From the Word: When things go wrong, ask for help

If life has been an almighty battle of repeated failures, maybe it's time to let God's word give you fresh direction and hope.

Psalm 37:23-24 (New International Version)

23 The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him;

24 though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

THIS is such a reassuring promise from the word of God. It’s a promise that God will make firm and secure our way in life.

That we can walk in confidence, knowing that He prepares the way for us.

For our part, we need to choose to delight in Him.

What does that mean? When you delight in someone, you talk about them often, you tell of their virtues, and you boast about them to others.

Further, you respect and love them.

It’s pretty much the same with God. He is, after all, our heavenly father.

He wants us to look forward to spending time with Him, His people, and those in need.

It’s our choice.

However, there is a caution. God doesn’t necessarily promise a life free of worry, stress and danger.

He also doesn’t promise that we will suddenly stop making mistakes and sometimes doing things which can hurt others and even ourselves.

But though we stumble, He will not let us fall, He will uphold us with His hand.

What we need to do in those times when we feel like we are stumbling around in the darkness and making a mess of things, is to keep our hand held out to God.

If it’s tucked away in a folded-arm expression of self-reliance and rebellion, then it’s going to be difficult for God to help you.

But if it’s lifted up, out and open, in humility, He will be there. He’ll bring people around you to help and get you through.

While things on Earth can be extremely tough, unfair and even inexplicable at times, God’s promise is eternal life.
