Ephesians 4:29 (New International Version)
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
MANY, many years ago my grandparents were on holiday in England.
At some stage they took a bus ride and wanted to comment on all the different folk they had observed.
So, they spoke in isiZulu. No one had a clue what they were saying.
Before South Africa emerged from Apartheid, travel abroad wasn’t as common for South Africans as it is now.
But then things changed.
A couple of friends also went travelling in England, and a similar thing happened.
They spotted two good looking girls sitting in front of them, discussed how good-looking they were, and planned how to ask them out, all the while talking in Afrikaans.
After about 30 seconds the girls turned around, smiled, and spoke to them … in Afrikaans! And said, yes they would like to go for a beer!
The point of these two stories is that we really should be careful what we say.

The truth is that it is within our control.
Some of the greatest sportsman very seldom lose their cool, and swear and shout and rant.
Yes, they are competitive but they have it under control.
We can also choose what we say about others, and what we listen to others saying about people we know.
Let God guide you.
Those two guys speaking Afrikaans thought no one could understand them.
In the same way, God can hear everything we say about others. Does what you say break down or does it build up?
