From the Word: Don’t give up hope

There are some certainties in God's promises, even if we can't necessarily see them with the naked eye.

Hebrews chapter 6 vs 13 to 20 (New International Version)

The certainty of God’s promise…

13 When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself,

14 saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.”

15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

16 People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument.

17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.

18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.

19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,

20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

THIS is my understanding of certain things on this Earth. You may feel free to disagree.

For one, it’s tough. Life is hard. In a global sense, nations are fighting against each other for power and control of lands and riches.

In family life it can be the same, different family members ‘fighting’ to get power and control of who does what when.

On a personal level, individuals struggle with themselves, torn between doing what they want, what’s expected from society, and often what others want from them.

It can be easy to feel down and depressed.

But don’t.

For Christians, in an eternal sense, if you are in Christ, believing in Him, your soul has an anchor.

It won’t be like a ship driven by a storm, without any control and at the mercy of the elements.

No. Your soul will be firm and secure.

That’s not to say Christians are immune from things that happen on Earth.

They’re human after all, and subject to frailty.

But when it comes to the soul, and its eternal future, things are different. It is secure, held firm. Forever.

That’s because Jesus paid the price for our sin, the sin which has separated us from a holy, perfectly righteous God.

In the Old Testament, the priests had to go through an intense and strict process when it came to the sanctuary.

Only certain priests, usually only the high priest could enter.

And if He did not do it exactly according to the instructions given, he’ll most likely die.

No one can match up to God’s holiness. The truth is that, in our sin, we die.

But because Jesus has gone behind the veil – it was torn in two when He was crucified – we now have direct access to God the Father through Christ the Son.

That’s good news. That’s our anchor. Our hope. Don’t give up.
