From the Word: Depressed leader? Here’s what to do

In God, there's always hope.

Psalm 43 New International Version

1 Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked.

2 You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?

3 Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.

4 Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.

5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

These are the words of a depressed leader, a very depressed leader.

David had felt that he had done most things right, yet the nation of Israel was unfaithful to God, which greatly affected him.

David’s state was so bad that He felt God had rejected and abandoned him.

Remember, this is the same man who felled the giant Goliath with a stone.

David felt there were not many he could trust.

So he fires away a series of questions to God… without much answer.

God, in His wisdom, lets David have his rant and moan and sulk.

Finally David comes up with his own solution, the obvious one for him.

He puts his hope in God. He chooses to praise Him, even though he feels there’s not much reason to do so.

That’s probably the key to breaking out of your current rut and into something new and fresh.

Praise God. Turn your eyes on Him. Let His glory become apparent.

It will shift the focus off your own woes, and in time, bring joy, peace and purpose to your life.
