Butthead’s Beat: Local sightings of Donald trumped up

The South Coast should be careful not to prove the most ridiculous American president in history right when he talks about 'sh**holes'.

No, there is no truth to a suggestion on a local whinge site that Donald Trump had the South Coast in mind when he made his now world (in)famous remark about African countries being ‘sh**holes’.

As far as we know, the most ridiculous American president in history has never been here… and probably never will (thank goodness).

However, the comment did inspire my dear old friend, serial whinger Mike Geiger, to post: “Trump’s description of some countries is applicable to the Ugu Distict???”

Based on the funny laughing animal ‘stickers’ posted by a few in response, Mike’s remark was not taken too seriously.

However, he does make a good point for a change.

We might not be able to rely upon a constant supply of water, but there certainly doesn’t seem to be any shortage of ‘sh**’

Only last Sunday, a friend stopped off at Southbroom main beach and saw a sewer spewing poo dangerously close to popular swimming areas.

(Before anyone gets their knickers in a knot, there is no disputing that the ‘whinge site’ referred to is hugely popular and is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Butthead has a sort of love-hate relationship with many who use and sometimes abuse the platform.)

Trump’s ‘rant’ has been labelled ‘outrageous, xenophobic and racist’, all of which one has to agree with, but we’ll leave it up to the rest of the world to flush him down the loo.

If we did that here, he would only pop up in one of our lagoons.

Our problem is that we really are rapidly getting a reputation for being a ‘sh**hole’… either because of no water… or because of our polluted lagoons.

The local economy is suffering, especially as nothing clears a ‘pool’ quicker than a ‘floater’.

Many movie buffs will remember that old golf classic, Caddyshack. There’s the famous scene when bathers scream, panic and clamber over each other to escape a floating chocolate log they all mistake for a you-know-what.

Then the pool cleaner, played by Bill Murray wearing a gas mask, fishes the log out of the water with a pool net, sniffs at it and takes a bite.

That also reminds me of a similar, real life incident at Sun City many years ago. It was a barmy holiday-time evening and my three-year-old daughter wanted to swim.

The main pool was packed, but the kiddie’s pool was deserted.

The next memory still makes me gag… so I’ll leave it there.
