DEAR Editor,-
On June 18 I had R41 800 fraudulently withdrawn from my account at a major bank. There were eight different transactions of R5 000 plus deposited into eight different accounts at eight different branches of the same bank.

After three months of investigation, the reply received from the bank is ‘We cannot accept liability as our staff do not know your pin number or password’.
Understood, but banks are aware of skilled fraudsters out there – who try every trick under the sun to get your personal details, or, as in my case, they hack your computer.
One only has to go into ‘Hello Peter’ or talk to the police to understand the extent of the problem at this particular South African bank.
Surely banks can adopt further measures to keep their clients’ money safe – even creating a 24-hour delay for online transactions will give account holders time to stop a transaction.
The public should be made aware of the fact their investments are not safe.
I am going to make it my duty to achieve this – with every means at my disposal – any ideas are welcome.
Sky News recently highlighted the problem in Britain – the only difference being that there, by law, banks are forced to pay the money back.
