DEAR Editor,-
The announcement by British Airways that it will fly direct between Durban and London three times a week is a wonderful ‘shot in the arm’ for tourism and business in our province.

KwaZulu-Natal is a destination that offers everything – beautiful beaches, soaring mountains, ‘Big Five’ game reserves, and best of all, welcoming people and warm sea temperatures.
This natural competitive advantage will now be magnified by convenient direct flights, giving visitors more time to enjoy our hospitality.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) celebrates this news.
We now appeal to the Department of Home Affairs to urgently address the visa regulations that are hurting South Africa’s tourism industry so badly.
While our porous borders make draconian visa requirements a joke, there are countries such as Ethiopia and Turkey – both of which have a vibrant tourism economy – that offer online visas or even application on arrival.
South Africa needs to up its game in this respect and offer a ‘red carpet’ experience to visitors rather than never-ending reams of ‘red tape’.
