OPINION: ‘Why is this intersection not policed?’

After a local policeman had a close call here some months ago, an effort was made to cordon off the area with cones and traffic officers were stationed there to move errant drivers along, and sometimes (all too rarely) even issue a fine.

DEAR Editor,-

I am forced to use the Oribi Plaza traffic lights twice daily, on my way to and from work. While there is seldom a problem in the morning, the afternoon is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Drivers – and by no means only those in taxis – pull off at will to pick up passengers from the side of the road heading north without a care for those forced to brake sharply in order to avoid ‘rear-ending’ them.

After a local policeman had a close call here some months ago, an effort was made to cordon off the area with cones and traffic officers were stationed there to move errant drivers along, and sometimes (all too rarely) even issue a fine.

Please could the powers-that-be assign an officer there between 4pm and 6pm when the traffic flow is heaviest?
