OPINION: ‘Be careful where you park’

When I returned to my car, I found a R500 parking ticket on my windscreen.

DEAR Editor,-

I went to Southport Library to collect medication (I go once a month) and parked in the street because there are not a lot of parking bays at the library.

I was NOT obstructing any traffic, but when I returned to my car, I found a R500 parking ticket on my windscreen.

I was not the only one who was fined – there were a lot of elderly people who had also parked in the street.

I normally park as close as possible because I battle to walk far since suffering a hip injury.

Many others use walking aids. Medicine collection is only open from 9 to 11am, so it is always very busy there on Tuesdays.

I want to warn all people collecting medication at the library on Tuesdays to be very careful where they park.

Traffic police should rather visit Port Shepstone CBD and sort out illegal parking there – and at least allow folk to collect medication in peace.

Is it because they are too scared to venture into Sheppie and that is why they target the elderly?

There are NO ‘No parking’ signs or markings painted on the road – so how do people know? And why can’t we park there?
