OPINION: ‘More trained staff are urgently needed’

The problem is there are only two technicians servicing from Port Edward to Marina Beach.

DEAR Editor,-

Many people complain about Eskom. On Monday, February 18, there was a loud bang at about 5pm. The transformer on our road had blown up.

Within five hours, we had a temporary electricity connection.

The next day, Eskom fixed the transformer and cables and reconnected electricity. So, within 24 hours, a major fault had been fixed. I say well done Eskom.

Now Telkom is a different story altogether.

Our line went out a couple of weeks ago and the technician we saw in Port Edward informed us that he was working on December’s schedule faults.

We were told that it is taking eight to 12 weeks to fix a fault.

I run a small export business and does Telkom realise that if our foreign clients are unable to contact us, they will abandon South Africa.

The day our line went out, Telkom were working on a pole down the road – a strong case of fix one problem and create another.

Our president and government are trying very hard to create jobs, but this kind of service from Telkom is doing exactly the opposite.

Telkom spends a fortune advertising new products.

We are aware of several users moving away from Telkom because of poor service.

The problem is GLARINGLY obvious – there are two technicians servicing from Port Edward to Marina Beach.

Obviously, more trained technicians are required. Why can’t Telkom see this?
