OPINION: ‘Rude worker manhandles applicants’

One elderly woman ahead of me was pulled out of line and moved back - because she dared to challenge him.

DEAR Editor,-

With reference to the letter ‘Rudeness is not acceptable’ in the South Coast Herald (March 1), I would like to add my voice to the growing list of complaints against the Umzinto Licensing Office.

I renewed my driver’s licence at Umzinto on July 9 – and eight months down the line I am still without a new licence. Phoning is a waste of time, so I set off early last week to investigate the situation.

A long queue of disgruntled folk were already waiting when I arrived. Eventually the office opened and we were addressed by an extremely aggressive employee shouting out instructions.

He then herded us into a small dark office and told us not to talk, but to do as we’re told. The problem, it seems, is that all fingerprints have been ‘lost’ and needed redoing.

It was very hot, there were no chairs to sit on and the queue moved painfully slowly.

During this time, the same rude man took it upon himself to ‘discipline’ us regularly, manhandling us into a straight line.

One elderly woman ahead of me was pulled out of line and moved back – because she dared to challenge him.

At this point I spoke up and asked for calm from all concerned in order to keep the peace.

None of this is our fault – we’ve obeyed the law, yet we’re persecuted for their total incompetence.

TOTALLY DISILLUSIONED
