DEAR Editor,-
I refer to recent complaints regarding illegal dumping from Port Shepstone to Hibberdene.
It is so frustrating seeing people dumping garden and household refuse all over daily and it kills us all to see towns looking like municipal dumping grounds.

But please try to understand that service providers like refuse removals, tree fellers and garden services have no specific place to dump refuse.
Hibberdene’s dumping facility is more closed than open because of poor management.
Unless you bribe the guards, you are not allowed to dump.
That means that once service providers have completed daily routes, they are unable to dump anywhere in the area.
Louisiana’s dumping grounds is not an option because it is a transfer station with skips.
Contractors are not allowed to dump there and needless to say, tipper trucks cannot enter the station – even if service providers were allowed.
This forces everyone to travel to Margate OR to dump illegally.
Going to Margate takes so much time and costs involve make it impossible to provide efficient services.
This leaves no alternative other than to increase prices, forcing the public to pay more monthly.
Half the people living on the South Coast are pensioners.
Do you really think they can afford increases all the time just because the municipality has decided this issue is not important enough?

DEAR Editor,-
I strongly endorse the concerns raised by Isabelle Bester. As Ray Nkonyeni Municipality is the top municipality in KZN, the facts and current situation are totally unacceptable.
Immediate response is demanded.
The municipal manager and the HOD made serious promises to address this issue more than six months ago.
